Is your supply chain ready for winter?
Winter puts extra pressure on housing teams.
Repairs increase. Heating issues become urgent. Damp and mould need attention. Specialist support is not always easy to find quickly.
Awaab’s Law Phase 2 adds to the need to be ready from 30 November.
Most housing providers already have contracts and frameworks in place. With winter approaching, it may be useful to check whether those routes provide enough capacity and choice if urgent or specialist works arise.
A few questions teams may already be considering:
- Can you access additional contractors at short notice?
- Are local and specialist suppliers visible through your current routes?
- Can you bring in extra capacity compliantly?
- Do you have enough choice if an existing supplier cannot respond?
I have seen broader supplier access make a practical difference.
The following examples show how the model has supported different property-related requirements:
- Decarbonisation Programme: Competitive supplier process completed in six weeks, generating seven bids and delivering a £300k saving. Access the case study here.
- Major Works: A £95m regeneration scheme was brought back within budget by reopening competition to capable Tier 2 contractors. Access the case study here.
- Facilities Management: Enabled a 48-school trust to champion a trusted local SME, securing a compliant supplier and saving £82,000 against the project budget. Access the case study here.
Different projects, but the same point: more routes to capable, diverse suppliers can help when time, capacity, or budget is tight.
Reviewing options early can give teams more flexibility if they need additional capacity.
I’m interested to hear how housing teams are preparing for winter demand and Awaab’s Law Phase 2.
